Settlement

Settlement is the point at which a trade is finalized and securities and cash actually change hands, typically one business day after the trade date for most securities.

The gap between trade date and settlement date is why a withdrawal request and a sale are not the same event, and why cash planning is a discipline rather than an afterthought.
