Credit quality

Credit quality describes the assessed likelihood that a bond issuer will meet its obligations, usually expressed through rating categories.

Duration and credit are separate risks that are frequently discussed as one. A portfolio can be short duration and poor credit, and it will behave very differently from the reverse.
