Audit trail
An audit trail is the record of who changed what and when across a system — assignments, fee changes, restrictions, overrides.
Its usefulness is measured at the worst moment, when a firm has to establish what a departing employee did or demonstrate that a control was in force on a particular date.
An audit trail that can be edited is a log, not a control.
